Plantation,
FL – DHL International Americas, the leading international air express
carrier and the first to provide service to the region, is placing three
converted ATR 42-300 aircraft into operations in its Latin America
network. The new DHL
aircraft will operate in bulk cargo configuration for the existing DHL
Direct Air Network's Central American routes, initiated from DHL's
Guatemala Hub, and Caribbean routes, initiated from DHL's Venezuela Hub.
``DHL
recognizes its customers growing needs and is making targeted
investments in its operations to meet those needs," stated Neil
Ferguson, Network Director of DHL Aviation Americas. ``With these three
new aircraft flying direct roundtrip routes, we are cutting transit
times – in most instances by a day or so – and delivering our
customers' shipments in an expeditious manner." DHL
Worldwide Express chose the ATR 42-300 aircraft for its International
Americas operations based on the freighters great performance,
reliability and flexibility, which was witnessed first-hand after a
successful implementation program of the aircraft by DHL in Africa.
Service via the three new aircraft, two to be based in Venezuela
and one to be based in Guatemala, is being phased into operation
throughout the summer. The ATR
42-300, with the lowest operating costs of any aircraft in its size
category, has a maximum non-stop range of 2,400 nautical miles and a
maximum cruising speed of 265 nautical mph.
In its freight configuration, the ATR 42-300 has a maximum
payload of 5,100kgs and can carry up to 1,130 cubic feet of bulk-loaded
cargo. In the past year, DHL International Americas has invested more than US$30 million in its service operations throughout the region, and with an average market share of 37 percent, continues to be the leading air carrier in Latin America and the Caribbean. |
